The musical instruments of the Hungarian Maqam

The Hungarian traditional music still uses two ancient musical instruments. One of them is the koboz, the other is the zither. The name koboz also sneaks of the Eastern origin. (komuz, kobuz, etc) The koboz is a lute like instrument with no frets on the fingerboard. That instrument is a perfect device to play maqam. Though the Hungarian zither changed a lot and it got a tempered fretboard, but it shows that we never received this instruments but we brought those instruments with us from the ancient homeland and developed it accommodating to Western music.
